Muhanga,Rukiga – Territorial Police in Rukiga District are hunting for an unknown assailant following the brutal murder of 70-year-old Busingye Domitiria at her home in Butobere Cell, Nyakanengo Ward, Muhanga Town Council.
The incident occurred on Monday, 5th May 2026, at around 9:00 p.m.
According to preliminary reports, the deceased was in her kitchen preparing supper at about 10:25 p.m. when she sent her four grandchildren, with whom she lived, to the main house to wash their feet.

While inside the main house, the children heard their grandmother’s distress cries from outside. When they tried to open the door, they discovered the assailant had locked them inside. Their alarm attracted an immediate neighbor, Ms. Kyomuhendo Joy.
As Kyomuhendo responded, she encountered an unidentified man in a grey hooded jacket fleeing from the scene toward a nearby banana plantation. She too raised an alarm, drawing other residents who helped free the children from the locked house.
On checking the kitchen, residents found Busingye Domitiria lying in a pool of blood. She had sustained multiple deep cuts to the head and was confirmed dead at the scene.
The matter was reported to Muhanga Police Station, and officers responded immediately. The scene was visited, processed, and documented. Statements were recorded from relevant witnesses, and a postmortem was conducted at the scene by the Police Surgeon.
Regrettably, police noted that the crime scene had already been tampered with before their arrival, which may complicate forensic analysis.
Inquiries are ongoing. Police are appealing to members of the public with any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect or suspects to come forward.
“Anyone with information that can help us bring those involved to book should volunteer it to police,” said ASP Maate Elly, Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson.
Burial arrangements for the deceased will be communicated by the family.
