BUHWEJU, UGANDA – Support for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and its key figures—Buhweju Woman Member of Parliament flagbearer Nnamara Annet Oyes Byamukama and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni—continues to surge among the youth in Buhweju District as the 2026 elections approach. Since the conclusion of the NRM primary elections, young people across various sub-counties have united in their commitment to back both Byamukama and Museveni, with many predicting winning margins exceeding 88%.
A recent survey conducted across the district’s 14 sub-counties revealed that at least 8 out of every 10 youths express strong support for NRM, particularly aligning themselves with the transformative leadership of Hon. Nnamara Annet Oyes Byamukama and President Museveni.
The reasons for this unprecedented youth support are clear. Byamukama, fondly known as “Omuteganda,” has established herself as a visionary leader dedicated to the community’s development. Through her founding of the Buhweju Community Transformation Initiatives Limited (BCTI), she has pioneered projects under the pillars of education, income generation, and networking. BCTI’s targeted programs—in areas such as pig farming, sports, knowledge-building, entertainment, and economic empowerment—have created tangible opportunities for the region’s youth. The flagship piggery project, for example, has provided livelihood support to young people with limited access to land.

Beyond BCTI, Byamukama’s influence has extended to supporting schools, churches, local artists, religious leaders, and attracting investors, such as initiating a new tea factory. She has established a model farm for training the youth, offered scholarships, organized skills-training sessions, and facilitated the formation of wealth creation groups.
Notably, her commitment to youth empowerment is strongly reflected in BCTI’s sports initiatives. Byamukama has personally organized football tournaments that journeyed from the parish to the sub-county and district levels. These grassroots competitions have helped identify athletic talent, foster social networking, and cultivate unity among the youth, forming a unifying force throughout Buhweju.

In a letter addressed to President Museveni in May 2025, district youth leaders officially endorsed Byamukama as their sole candidate for the 2026 Woman Member of Parliament seat. They highlighted her role in igniting hope, inspiring innovation, and driving economic progress, and called for the President’s support for her candidacy.

The collective enthusiasm has set the stage for a momentous gathering as Buhweju prepares to welcome President Museveni—also the NRM’s National Chairman—on November 29, 2025. As the district braces for the upcoming election, the unwavering resolve of Buhweju’s youth to campaign for Byamukama and President Museveni stands as a testament to the transformative power of dedicated grassroots leadership, unity, and community-driven development.
