MITOOMA, UGANDA – Residents and stakeholders in Mitooma district have pledged to vote based on candidates’ capabilities rather than party affiliations, as the race for the Woman MP seat intensifies. This shift comes after incumbent Hon. Agasha Juliet Bashisha launched her re-election campaign as an independent candidate in Ruhinda Central, following past controversies.
At a well-attended event held at Kyankukwe Playground in Mitooma Subcounty, many supporters were seen defecting from the camp of NRM flag bearer Kyarampe Rebecca to join Agasha Juliet’s independent bid. The defectors cited false accusations during the previous election and alleged electoral irregularities, which they claim led them to mistakenly support unsuitable leaders.
Mwesigye Vincent, NRM chairperson for Katunda Parish, emphasized that now is the time for the people of Mitooma to focus on electing leaders who can advance the district, rather than voting strictly along party lines.

Echoing similar sentiments, Namanya Adrian, the Mitooma District NRM Finance Secretary, remarked that despite Hon. Juliet’s independent candidacy, the local party leadership is prepared to back hard-working candidates—especially those with NRM roots.

Voters gave out gifts to Hon Agasha Juliet Bashiisha.
In her address, Hon. Juliet Agasha Bashisha, the incumbent Woman MP, expressed gratitude that constituents are recognizing her achievements. She reiterated that her decision to run as an independent was influenced by irregularities in the previous election and the growing desire among the people to elect leaders of proven integrity and capability, regardless of party blessing.

Jubilant Voters.

Juliet did nothing for us in Mitooma District
By default Rabecca Kyarampe must go to parliament
