RUBIRIZI, UGANDA – More than 500 households in Magambo Sub-county, Rubirizi District, have received emergency food relief after a devastating hailstorm accompanied by heavy rains and strong winds destroyed gardens, homes, and food crops. Team Hon. Arinitwe Jeniva Nnalongo, the NRM flagbearer for Woman Member of Parliament in Rubirizi District, distributed over 1,500kg of posho to residents across six villages.
Each household received 10 kilograms of posho to help them recover from the immediate food shortages caused by the disaster. Hon. Jeniva Nnalongo encouraged residents to adopt sustainable farming practices, such as mulching, afforestation, and tree planting, as long-term solutions to protect their gardens from future disasters.

She also directed local leaders to register all affected families and forward the lists to district authorities for further relief support. Hon. Jeniva appealed to the government to prioritize disaster-hit families when allocating funds under the Parish Development Model (PDM) and to strengthen community SACCOs to support vulnerable households.

A Call for Further Support:
Local leaders thanked Hon. Jeniva Nnalongo for the timely support but emphasized the need for more emergency assistance to prevent hunger, poverty, and household instability. The relief distribution is part of Hon. Jeniva Nnalongo’s broader commitment to community support and development under her campaign motto “Nitukora bikye, birebeka” – meaning “small but consistent actions yield visible impact.”
