Ntungamo, Uganda – A section of local leaders and residents in Kashenyi, Ngoma sub-county, Rushenyi-Ntungamo district, have vowed not to participate in the upcoming NRM primaries and 2026 general elections if their demands are not met.
The leaders, including local councilors and residents from nine cells, expressed their dissatisfaction with top leaders, including the Ntungamo LCV chairperson and area MP, for neglecting area developments.
According to Mr. Godon Nabasa, chairperson of Kashenyi Centre, and Mr. Wilson Nkubana, chairman of Bunusa Cell, the government extended electricity to the area in 2021 but switched it off after the elections.

Despite having poles erected with wires, residents are struggling to repay loans taken to purchase machines that use electricity.
Led by senior resident Mr. Enock Muhumuza, residents cited poor roads, lack of electricity, health facilities, and ineffective leadership as major concerns.
They emphasized that the neglected Akabare bridge in Mutungu cell, which connects Rushenyi and Ruhaama counties, has resulted in significant losses, including over 20 children during the rainy season.
Residents also expressed concerns about contracting water-borne diseases due to sharing streams with animals for bathing, washing, and other purposes.
They promised to prevent any politician from campaigning in the area unless their grievances are addressed.
