Entebbe,Uganda – The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has briefed President Yoweri Museveni on its preparedness to supply water to Hoima, Masindi and Kabalega International Airport during the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The briefing was made through Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, who leads the National AFCON Task Force, during a meeting at State House Entebbe on Tuesday, September 22.
Uganda will co-host the tournament with Kenya and Tanzania from June 16 to July 19, 2027, the first time it will be staged in the East African Community.

Nabbanja told the President that water supply works for Hoima City Stadium are complete, while works to stabilize supply in Hoima City stand at 32 percent.
The programme is being implemented by the Ministry of Water and Environment through NWSC and aims to provide dedicated supply to stadiums and hospitality venues ahead of an expected surge in visitors.
The meeting was attended by NWSC Managing Director Eng. Dr. Silver Mugisha.

According to the report, the stadium is supplied by two boreholes at Mparo and Kyarwiru yielding 25 and 15 cubic meters per hour respectively. Both have been developed, connected and commissioned, giving the stadium an independent supply line. Hoima City Stadium was officially launched in December 2025.
For Hoima City, NWSC is adding 2,000 cubic meters of treated water per day. Component A includes a 2,000 cubic meter treatment plant at Kafu-Rwoga, a 2.9km raw water pipeline and a 300 cubic meter reservoir. Component B covers a permanent intake on River Kafu and a 22km treated water pipeline from Kikuube to Hoima.
Excavation and concrete blinding for the treatment units are complete, pipeline route surveys are done, river intake excavation is at 90 percent, power extension at 50 percent, and steel and concrete works at 15 percent.
NWSC’s original scope covered only the stadium and Hoima City. The AFCON Secretariat later requested extension to Kabalega International Airport and stabilization of supply in Masindi Town.
For the airport, NWSC proposes upgrading the Kafu plant capacity from 2,000 to 3,000 cubic meters per day, laying a 36km bulk pipeline and building a 200 cubic meter reservoir at the airport.
In Masindi, the plan includes upgrading the Katam-Kyema pipelines, installing pumping equipment and extending supply to Masindi Stadium and a designated hotel.
The airport and Masindi works are each at 5 percent, with surveys completed and works ready for procurement once funds are released.
Nabbanja put the total cost of the water interventions at Shs22.15 billion. Of this, Shs6.25 billion has been secured and is funding civil works under Component A, while Shs15.9 billion is still needed for the airport extension, Masindi works and Component B.
She said works are scheduled for completion by February 2027, four months before kickoff.
The briefing comes days after CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe began an inspection tour of the three host countries and urged them to speed up preparations with nine months left.
