KAMPALA,UGANDA – The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has warned district inspectors of schools against allowing examination malpractice to undermine the integrity of the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).
UNEB Executive Director, Dan Odongo, said inspectors have a responsibility to ensure schools understand and comply with examination regulations and to stop any attempts to manipulate results.
He noted that some districts have avoided appearing before UNEB’s examination malpractice hearings because their education officials have taken firm action to enforce rules and protect the integrity of examinations.

Odongo urged inspectors to ensure headteachers understand the regulations, deploy the required number of invigilators, properly select examination centres and remain vigilant throughout the examination period.
He warned that allowing learners to obtain artificially high marks through cheating creates a misleading picture of educational performance in a district.
According to Odongo, genuine examination results help education authorities identify areas where learners are struggling and determine appropriate interventions, but when marks are inflated through malpractice, underlying weaknesses remain hidden.
