KITAGWENDA – Police have been deployed at Mahyoro Secondary School in Kitagwenda District after Senior Six candidates staged a demonstration over alleged failure by the school administration to hire facilitators for their revision ahead of the forthcoming Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations.
The incident happened on Sunday, October 26, 2026, when the S.6 candidates turned rowdy, accusing Headteacher Denis Baguma of neglecting their academic preparation.
According to reports, the agitated students assaulted the headteacher during the protest. He was rescued by a passing security officer who intervened and alerted authorities. The headteacher was rushed to Ntara Health Centre IV for treatment.

Following the chaos, officers from Kitagwenda Central Police Station and Mahyoro Police Station were deployed to restore order and prevent further destruction at the school.
A crisis meeting was later chaired by Mahyoro Town Council LC3 Chairperson Joshua Atumanya to calm the situation. The Board of Governors Chairperson Dr. Eric Nzibonera said the board will convene an emergency meeting to find a lasting solution to the students’ grievances.
By press time, police remained deployed at the school premises to counter any further demonstrations as S.6 candidates prepare for their final exams.
