BUHWEJU, UGANDA – The National Resistance Movement (NRM) supporters in Buhweju district are up in arms over independent candidate Ameria Kantona’s allegations against the party’s District Executive Committee (DEC), dismissing them as a “blatant attempt to tarnish the NRM’s reputation and distract from her own shortcomings”.
Kantona’s credibility has been questioned due to her history of employment terminations, with her tenure at Buhweju tea factory and Uganda Investment Authority marked by controversy. The NRM DEC has denied Kantona’s allegations, calling them “malicious and unfounded”, and party supporters are demanding that she provide concrete evidence to back up her claims.
“We won’t let her get away with this,” said a senior NRM official. “This is a desperate attempt by a disgruntled individual to sabotage the NRM’s chances in the upcoming elections.”

The Electoral Commission (EC) is being urged to investigate Kantona’s allegations and take necessary action. The NRM will not be intimidated or bullied by baseless accusations, and party supporters are being urged to remain calm and united in the face of this attack.
Ikanga Valley, Administrative Secretary for NRM Buhweju District Executive Committee, attributed Kantona’s actions to opportunism, saying, “Opposition has tried to topple NRM government… but they will not be able to manage it because of its cohesion.”
Buhweju District NRM Chairperson, Mr. Kabandize Godfrey, urged supporters to remain steadfast, saying, “We were elected for a purpose. We shall be like Jesus until we save our nation Buhweju by voting NRM flag bearers.”
The NRM has put out a call to action, demanding that Kantona provide evidence to support her allegations, and for the EC to investigate and take action against her for spreading false information.
