Kisoro, Uganda – Kisoro Territorial Police are investigating Bufumbira County MP Hon. John Kamara Nzeyimana for allegedly aiding seven suspects to escape police custody on July 28, 2025, at approximately 2:00 PM. The suspects, Gasigwa Jeremiah, Harerimana Augustine, Nkurunziza Apollo, Bavuzayubusa Paskazia, Mujawimana Dinavance, and Basekuye Teleza, were arrested in connection with arson and malicious damage to property belonging to Mahoro Jackline following a village dispute on May 3, 2025.
After Mahoro filed a complaint with the Kisoro Central Police Station (CPS), the suspects were summoned for questioning. However, they allegedly sought advice from Hon. Nzeyimana, who reportedly told them to ignore the summons. Following further investigation and the suspects’ eventual arrest, Hon. Nzeyimana went to the CPS and requested bail for them. District CID Officer D/ASP Babiiha Johnson advised that they make statements first, prompting an angry departure from Hon. Nzeyimana.
While the investigating officer was questioning the suspects, Hon. Nzeyimana returned, ordered the suspects to flee, and drove them away in his vehicle, pushing aside the investigating officer who attempted to intervene. The OC Station, SP Tuhairwe Alex, and the District CID Officer were immediately notified.

A subsequent operation led to the rearrest of all seven suspects at Hon. Nzeyimana’s home. However, Hon. Nzeyimana himself remains at large, having allegedly mobilized community members against the police. Efforts to apprehend him are ongoing. The case highlights the irony of a legislator allegedly acting against the very laws he is sworn to uphold.
This development has been confirmed by ASP Maate Elly, Kigezi Police Spokesperson.
