Bushenyi, Uganda – Hajji Iddi Basajjabalaba, Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality Member of Parliament aspirant, has urged youth in the region to unite and form financial groups to maximize their benefits from government poverty-alleviation initiatives.
Speaking at the launch of a municipality-wide football tournament on Saturday, June 14th, 2025, Basajjabalaba emphasized the importance of collective action in accessing and utilizing government resources.
Hundreds of residents gathered at Kashenyi stadium in Ishaka Division to witness the launch of the inter-wards football tournament, a vibrant event featuring both men’s and women’s teams.

The tournament, set to encompass the entire municipality, kicked off with opening matches in Ishaka Division, with Kashenyi ward FC securing a 4-2 victory over Buramba FC in the men’s division. The women’s match between the two wards ended in a goalless draw.
Basajjabalaba used the high-profile sporting event as a platform to address pressing socio-economic concerns within the community. He highlighted the numerous government programs designed to uplift communities out of poverty, but stressed that their effectiveness hinges on the collaborative efforts of the youth.
By forming financial groups, Basajjabalaba argued, young people can leverage their collective strength to access loans, training, and other resources offered by these programs.
The tournament, encompassing Ishaka Division’s five wards (Kashenyi, Buramba, Ward 3, Ward 4, and Ward 5), and eventually expanding to the municipality’s remaining 15 wards and 74 cells/villages, promises to be a significant event, fostering community spirit and competition. The winners will receive a trophy, and all participants are guaranteed prizes at the tournament’s conclusion.
Basajjabalaba’s message underscores the importance of community engagement and strategic collaboration in the fight against poverty in Bushenyi.
End.
