NTUNGAMO, UGANDA – Students at Rubaare Secondary School (SSS) in Ntungamo district received a powerful boost to their future prospects yesterday, thanks to a career guidance session delivered by the Viva Caring Hearts Foundation. The NGO, led by founder Mr. Eric Kahumuza, emphasized the crucial role of early talent identification and career planning.
The engaging session, held on Thursday, June 12th, highlighted the importance of students recognizing their strengths and aspirations early on. Mr. Kahumuza stressed that this focused approach helps students navigate their education with purpose, preventing them from graduating without a clear path. He highlighted a common challenge faced by many African students – entering higher education without a defined career goal, often leading to unemployment after graduation.
This sentiment was echoed by Viva Caring Hearts program managers Ms. Phiona Akantorana and Ms. Gorret Turyahebwa, who urged students to choose subjects that align with their future ambitions and to remain committed to their education. They underscored the importance of selecting appropriate subject combinations at advanced levels.

The school’s head of academics, Mr. Onesmus Karamuzi, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, noting that such external support is invaluable in inspiring students to actively plan their futures. He believes the session will encourage students to approach their studies with renewed determination and purpose.
The importance of parental support also emerged as a key theme. Senior Six students Eugine Ariimpa and Rachael Asiimwe shared their experiences of parental pressure to pursue unwanted career paths, highlighting the potential for conflict and disillusionment.
The Viva Caring Hearts Foundation plans to extend its career guidance programs to other schools and tertiary institutions across the region, aiming to equip students with the tools they need to navigate their academic journey and contribute meaningfully to their communities. The organization’s commitment to fostering patriotism, passion, and responsibility within the youth promises a brighter future for Uganda’s young people.
