Ntungamo, Uganda – Residents of Kikungu trading centre in Rwemiriro ward, Rushenyi county, Ntungamo district, are reeling from a suspected witchcraft incident.
A cat carcass, wrapped in black plastic and bearing signs of mutilation, was discovered dumped outside the home of Moses Matsiko on Tuesday morning, sparking widespread fear and accusations of sinister practices.
Eyewitnesses reported finding the mutilated cat carcass at approximately 7:45 AM on June 17th. The discovery, including the removal of the animal’s legs and internal organs, fueled speculation among residents that the crime was linked to malicious witchcraft.

Local council leader, Mr. Moses Gantungo, confirmed receiving reports about the incident. He indicated that Mr. Matsiko has been embroiled in a domestic dispute with a former spouse, fueling suspicions that the incident might be related to the ongoing conflict. Gantungo further stated that residents claimed Matsiko’s sons were involved in removing and burying the carcass.
This incident is not the first of its kind in the area. Reports indicate that a dog was similarly butchered and served to residents in the past eight months. Following the previous incident, police warned residents about the dangers of engaging in witchcraft and ritualistic practices.
Despite the police intervention, residents now live in fear for their safety, highlighting the urgent need for local authorities to address the escalating concerns and quell the anxieties surrounding these alleged incidents. Local leaders are calling for swift action to investigate the situation thoroughly and bring those responsible to justice, while working to restore calm and confidence in the community.
