Kanungu,Uganda – Police in Kanungu have arrested 64-year-old Yonasi Kwitegeka, alias Swankuru, a resident of Rwenyerere Cell, Biwomborwa Parish, Kihihi Town Council, for the alleged defilement of two girls aged 7 and 9.
According to Kigezi Police Spokesperson ASP Maate Elly, the incident occurred in early May 2026. The victims were sent to the suspect’s home to collect passion fruits when he allegedly lured them with money and sexually assaulted them on more than three occasions on different days.
The girls reportedly kept silent after the suspect threatened them not to tell their mother. The abuse came to light after their health deteriorated, prompting them to tell their mother what had happened. She immediately reported the matter to Kihihi Police Station, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
“It is very unfortunate that a person of that age, who is supposed to advise and provide safety and protection to the young ones against sexual abuse, is the one involved in committing such an offense,” ASP Maate said.
Police say inquiries are ongoing, and the suspect will be produced in court to answer charges once investigations are complete.
