Rubirizi,Uganda – The Foundation for Human Rights Initiatives (FHRI), through the Advancing Justice Project, has engaged district leaders, security agencies and judicial officers in Greater Bushenyi to address delays in the delivery of justice.
The dialogue, held at Rubirizi District Headquarters, focused on case backlogs, prison congestion and improving access to timely and fair justice, particularly for vulnerable and low-income communities.
FHRI Executive Director Dr. Livingstone Sewanyana called for stronger coordination among justice sector actors, increased legal awareness and the fast-tracking of cases involving vulnerable persons.
Stakeholders identified political interference, limited legal personnel, poor network coverage and prison congestion as major challenges undermining effective justice delivery.

The meeting recommended regular coordination meetings among justice actors, legal aid outreaches and the use of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms for minor cases.
