A dispute over a jerrycan of waragi has emerged between two residents of Bushenyi District, with local leaders failing to resolve the matter during a mediation meeting held on Sunday, September 6, 2026.
Local Council members and residents of Ryamabengwa Cell, Ryamabengwa Ward, Central Division in Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality, convened to resolve the dispute, but the meeting ended without an agreement.
The dispute dates back to June and involves Mwesigye Rwotsyana, a former LC1 chairperson candidate, and Annet, whom Mwesigye accuses of taking a jerrycan of waragi worth Shs130,000 without paying for it.
However, Annet denied the allegation, claiming that Mwesigye had given her some of the waragi to distribute to voters during the LC1 campaigns in exchange for votes.

According to Annet, Mwesigye only sold her two bottles of waragi, which she added to the liquor he had given her for distribution, bringing the total amount to five litres.

The Local Council meeting, chaired by Mr Magezi George, adjourned the matter to Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. The parties are expected to return for further mediation in an effort to reach a resolution.
Meanwhile, the meeting also resolved that all bars in the area should open at 1:00 p.m. and close at 10:00 p.m. as part of measures to curb criminal activities in the area.
