BUSHENYI, UGANDA – Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality Member of Parliament candidate Edwin Twinomugisha, also known as “Ikondere,” has revealed the reasons behind his choice of a candle as his symbol for the upcoming 2026 general elections.
Twinomugisha addressed the people of Masya—his place of residence—in Ruharo Ward, Central Division, Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality, shortly after being officially nominated as an independent candidate.
He explained that he selected the candle as his symbol to represent hope for everyone, emphasizing that the community can achieve more and access better quality services than those provided in previous administrations.

“We have people who have studied but still failed to get jobs. Some have tried to succeed but have not managed. I believe we can help each other so that if one person is successful, they can also help others by creating more connections and friendships through various networks,” Twinomugisha explained.
Edwin Twinomugisha “Ikondere” faces stiff competition from NRM’s Hajji Iddi Basajjabalaba, Counsel Nyakiira Nickolas (who, after losing the NRM primaries, is also running as an independent), Twahika Dennis Enjoki, and others.
