KANUNGU, UGANDA – The territorial police in Kanungu are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of 54-year-old Eric Ndamiye, a resident of Nyakagyezi cell, Eastern ward, Butogota Town Council, Kanungu district. It is alleged that the deceased was a known drunkard and was last seen during the evening hours of October 26, 2025, in the bar of Niwamanya Gift at Nyakagyezi trading center.
The next morning, on October 27, 2025, Ndamiye was found lying dead along a footpath leading to his home, just a few meters away from the bar. The body had visible finger marks around the neck, suggesting foul play. The police were informed by Eridad Byaruhanga, and the scene was visited and documented. Although a sniffer dog was introduced, the scene had already been tampered with.
A postmortem was conducted at the scene of the crime by a medical personnel from Mpungu Health Center IV, and the body was handed over to relatives for a decent burial. The police are currently conducting inquiries and working to apprehend those involved, who will be charged accordingly.
Kigezi Police Spokesperson Asp Maate Elly confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
