Buhweju District Local Government, through the District Education Office, has directed proprietors of pre-primary, primary, secondary and tertiary institutions operating without valid licences or registration to refrain from opening for the third term of the 2026 academic year.
The directive is contained in a letter dated 27 July 2026, addressed to proprietors of educational institutions across Buhweju District. The notice follows inspection and monitoring exercises conducted by district education authorities, which reportedly found that a number of schools were operating without meeting the minimum requirements set by the Ministry of Education and Sports.

The notice has also been copied to several key district authorities and education stakeholders, including the Resident District Commissioner, District Chairperson, Chief Administrative Officer, District Internal Auditor, Senior Assistant Secretaries/Town Clerks, Inspectors of Schools and the Secretary for Social Services.
The directive comes as schools prepare to end the second term of the 2026 academic year for the prior preparations the coming term, placing renewed emphasis on school licensing, registration, inspection and adherence to minimum education standards.
Parents and guardians are consequently encouraged to verify the registration and licensing status of schools before enrolling or returning their children to institutions whose operational status may be in question.
