RUKUNGIRI, UGANDA – The territorial police in Rukungiri are searching for a man who allegedly murdered a 46-year-old woman.
The suspect, Gumisiriza, a male adult residing in Kagando cell, Kabingo parish, Buhimba sub-county, Rukungiri district, is accused of fatally attacking Evalyn Tusiime, a 46-year-old resident of Kigariko cell, with whom he had been cohabiting. She was pronounced dead on arrival at Nyakibale Hospital.
It is alleged that Tusiime and the suspect had been living together for the past five years at her home. Recently, however, they developed misunderstandings, and Tusiime reported threats to her life to the area chairperson.
On October 20, 2025, around 8 PM, the suspect allegedly attacked her at her home while she was having dinner, using a panga to strike her in the head, arm, and shoulder. Tusiime raised an alarm that drew the attention of local residents, including area chairperson Mr. Mugurura Jastus, who rushed to the scene and helped evacuate her to Nyakibale Hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival. The police were subsequently notified.
Kigezi Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed the incident, emphasizing that police visited the crime scene to document and process the evidence.
The body was taken to the Nyakibale Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination, as investigations continue.
