RUBIRIZI, UGANDA – A land dispute has erupted in Mugogo 11 Village, Rubirizi District, with families squabbling over property left by the late Fikiri Yusuf. Deputy Resident District Commissioner Rwamutojo Dagaras intervened, encouraging families, particularly children, to cease fighting and focus on restoring harmony.
During his address, Dagaras emphasized the importance of utilizing inherited land to improve livelihoods, combat poverty, and support community development. He noted that many young individuals drop out of school or neglect job opportunities after inheriting land, which can exacerbate family conflicts.
Yona Turyasiima, LC1 chairperson of Mugogo 11 Village, echoed Dagaras’s sentiments, stating that inheritance disputes are causing many families in Rubirizi District to break apart. He encouraged a focus on education and hard work over reliance on inherited property.

Family members Alan Niwagaba and Muhamadi Fikiri expressed gratitude for the guidance provided by the RDC’s office. They are committed to upholding their parents’ legacy by using the land for productive purposes that can benefit future generations, while pledging to adhere to legal processes for dispute resolution.
