RUBIRIZI, UGANDA – The Ishaka Muslim Community Sacco has launched an Islamic banking outreach program in Rubirizi District, aiming to promote savings culture, provide interest-free loans, and combat poverty in the community.
The program, held at Kyambura playground in Kicwamba Subcounty, seeks to raise awareness and provide access to financial services for those unable to reach the Sacco’s headquarters.
Sheikh Kiseka Iddi Abdulahumani, Secretary for Dawa in Greater Bushenyi Muslim District, urged residents to adopt a savings culture to improve livelihoods and reduce poverty. “This will help fight poverty and idleness by providing capital for income-generating activities,” he said.

Hon. Haji Adam Semugabe, a member of the General Assembly in the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, praised the Ugandan government for promoting Islamic banking, noting it offers interest-free loans aligned with Sharia law.

Ishaka Muslim Sacco has secured over 3 billion shillings in funding, including 308 million allocated to women and 1.1 billion granted to Imams by President Museveni to boost their livelihoods.
Sheikh Manisuri Siwatu, a prominent Islamic leader in Rubirizi, emphasized that Islamic banking will reduce reliance on exploitative loan schemes and boost economic growth. The community responded positively, with many expressing commitment to utilize the services responsibly.
