RUBIRIZI, UGANDA – ACODEV-Uganda, in partnership with Rubirizi District local government, has launched couple dialogues aimed at promoting shared responsibility in family planning, fostering community mindset change, and strengthening family planning to reduce gender-based violence in families.
The launched couple dialogue meeting, held in Ntunga A and B villages, Kikumbo Parish, Katerera, Rubirizi District, brought together couples to collectively access services and make joint decisions on family size and building stronger families.
Cindy Okullo, ACODEV Uganda’s Program Manager, stated that the effort addresses men’s low involvement in family planning. “The goal was to bring couples together to collectively access services, make joint decisions on family size, and build stronger families,” she said. The program targets men and women aged 15-49.

Hon. Kambendiho Godfrey, Rubirizi District Vice Chairperson, thanked ACODEV for empowering couples. “Many families struggle with cooperation, especially on family planning. This training will help couples work together to develop their futures,” he said.
Residents of Ntunga village, Madam Kyarimpa Specioza and Rutagarukanyima Didas, highlighted outcomes from the meeting, including improved communication skills and unity in households, support for children’s education and joint projects, and reduced conflicts and misunderstandings in families.
The couple dialogue addresses women’s concerns about men neglecting their wives in family planning decisions, aiming to increase service demand among couples.
