Ntungamo,Uganda – Parents and guardians have been urged to take the lead in teaching their school-going children about body changes, reproductive health and other sensitive issues instead of leaving such conversations to peers.
The call was made by Ruhaama County Member of Parliament, Hon. Beatrice Rwakimaari, during the closure of a Regional Stakeholders Dialogue on Values and Life Skills for Young People held at Standard College Ntungamo.
The dialogue was organised by the Office of the First Lady of Uganda in partnership with the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD).

Hon. Rwakimaari expressed concern that many parents and guardians do not create enough time to talk to their children about the physical and emotional changes they experience as they grow.
She urged parents to befriend their children and create an environment where they can freely discuss sensitive issues, particularly as learners prepare to return to school for Third Term tomorrow, September 14th, 2026.
The legislator said open and honest conversations at home can help young people make responsible decisions and avoid being misled into early or risky sexual relationships.
She encouraged parents to use the school reopening period as an opportunity to have meaningful conversations with their children about values, life skills, relationships and responsible behaviour.
