Veteran journalist Andrew Mwenda has made a series of explosive allegations concerning former Tooro Queen Mother Best Kemigisa, regarding affairs of the Tooro Kingdom.
In a series of posts on X, Mwenda accused Kemigisa of long-standing interference in kingdom matters. He alleged that she was linked to the 1999 killing of Prince Kijanangoma, the elder brother of the late King Oyo. Mwenda claimed President Yoweri Museveni chose not to have her prosecuted at the time because she was raising the young King.
He further claimed that John Katuramu, whom he described as an accomplice in that case, was prosecuted and sentenced to death.

Mwenda also alleged that Kemigisa had interfered in succession matters, kingdom land transactions and royal traditions, and that she attempted to influence succession and the late King’s will in the days before his death.
He further linked her to a delay in moving the late King Oyo’s body to church for burial prayers, describing it as an unprecedented confrontation that required intervention by authorities.
In the same posts, Mwenda also recounted an alleged 1998 incident involving the late Queen Mother Kezia Byanjeru, claiming she was forcibly removed from the palace.
Mwenda wrote that Batooro had remained silent for decades in preference for peace, but said recent developments had heightened tensions.
The claims are likely to intensify debate over leadership and succession in Tooro Kingdom. Responses from Best Kemigisa, Tooro Kingdom officials, and other parties named in the allegations are still awaited before the claims can be treated as established facts.
