RUBIRIZI –Bunyaruguru County Member of Parliament Hon. Cadet Benjamin Buturo has called for proper accountability and transparency in budget implementation to improve service delivery in Rubirizi District.
Hon. Buturo made the call on Monday during the Rubirizi District Budget Conference held in the district.
He urged the district leadership to focus and prioritise on science and technology, increased production, value addition and marketing, human capital development, agro-industrialization and digital transformation to help communities improve their livelihoods.
According to Buturo, this is the right time for people to change their mindset, embrace a saving culture and engage in productive farming that can transform their households.
He asked residents to be watchdogs of government projects in their areas to monitor how they are implemented and to fight corruption by questioning how government money is spent.
He added that proper use of funds, monitoring of projects and citizen participation in budgeting will ensure better services for residents.
The legislator further urged residents to stop wasting money on unproductive things and instead start income generating projects that can transform their household income.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ndyanabo Vincent Karikwita, the LC1 Chairperson of Nyakasharu, commended Rubirizi District for organizing the budget conference, saying it will help in the development of the area.
He however expressed concern over poor quality work in the implementation of government projects, corruption and shoddy work, saying it has affected government service delivery to the people.
He noted that when government increases services in villages, it enables local government to collect more revenue, but when people do not receive services, revenue collection also becomes difficult.
