BUSHENYI,UGANDA – The Woman Member of Parliament for Bushenyi District, Hon. Annet Katusiime Mugisha, has lobbied for hand hoes to support vulnerable families in Bushenyi whose information was captured during the 2024 National Population and Housing Census.
According to UBOS, Bushenyi has a population of 283,392 people across 571 villages and cells, and Hon. Katusiime says this data is now being used to ensure government support reaches the real households on the ground, especially women-headed families, the elderly and youth in subsistence farming.
Hon. Katusiime said many families in Bushenyi still struggle with lack of basic farm tools despite being hardworking farmers.

“We counted these families during the census, now we must support them. A hand hoe may look small, but it can change a family’s food security and income. I have lobbied to ensure these families are not just counted but empowered,” she said.
The initiative complements her 2026-2031 plan to distribute chicks and coffee seedlings and continue development programs aimed at household transformation.
Through her Bamugisha Community Welfare Initiative, Hon. Katusiime has been at the forefront of household income programs in Bushenyi, supporting communities with food relief, saving groups and other livelihood empowerment programs.
*Aligned with PDM and NRM Manifesto*
The hand hoe intervention is aligned with the Parish Development Model (PDM) and the NRM manifesto of moving households from subsistence to the money economy, and comes at a time when a good quality hoe has become expensive and unaffordable for many rural families.
Hon. Katusiime has already dispatched the hoes to all sub-counties in Bushenyi District, with sub-county leaders assigning distribution to Chairperson LC1s at village level to ensure the tools reach intended families.
The exercise is already underway in sub-counties including Ibaare, Bumbaire, Kyeizooba, Kizinda Town Council and others.
Residents have welcomed the intervention, describing it as timely support for household farming.
