Wakiso, Uganda – Police in Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District, have apprehended 18-year-old Arinda Swabura for allegedly stabbing and killing her colleague, 18-year-old Anyima Grace, during a dispute at Dema Bakery in Rabai Estate on August 12, 2025.
According to SSP Patrick Onyango, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, the quarrel erupted over the use of a shared charcoal stove, with Swabura allegedly removing Grace’s saucepan to boil water first, triggering a fight that escalated into violence. During the scuffle, Swabura allegedly stabbed Grace in the back. Despite attempts to rush her to hospital, Grace was pronounced dead upon arrival.
A green-handled knife with suspected blood stains was found near the body, and signs of a struggle were evident at the scene. Swabura is currently in custody at Nsangi Police Division, with investigations ongoing and witness statements recorded. Police urge the public to adopt peaceful conflict resolution methods to prevent such tragedies.

This incident contributes to Uganda’s rising homicide toll, with at least 4,067 people killed in 2024, averaging 11 murders daily. Onyango emphasized that investigators are working to establish all circumstances surrounding the bakery killing, and the suspect will face charges in court once inquiries are complete.
