MITOOMA, UGANDA – Ruhinda South Member of Parliament, Hon. Captain Mugabe Dononzio Kahonda, has officially launched his campaign for the 2026 elections.
Hon. Kahonda began his independent campaign in Mutara Town Council on Sunday, November 16, 2025, with a main rally at Bukongoro Trading Centre. Supporters welcomed him enthusiastically, highlighted by a performance from popular singer Bonde Moses, who sang the local favorite, “Itwe Nitwenda Kahonda” (“We want Hon. Kahonda to represent us”).
He was warmly received by LC1 Chairperson Mr. Muruhura Kasimu, Mitooma Youth Chairperson Mwesiza Aron, Bukongoro Youth Chairperson Arinaitwe, area councilors, and others. At least 22 people publicly declared their defection from rival camps to join Hon. Kahonda’s campaign.

Accompanied by local NRM leaders and district officials, Kahonda arrived at the rally with a large convoy and presented his manifesto for Ruhinda South if elected for the 2026-31 term. His main priorities include extending road networks, increasing access to water and electricity, ensuring every sub-county has a government school and health center, and the renovation of current schools.

Demonstrating a commitment to community empowerment, Kahonda outlined partnerships with NGOs focused on family income and food security. He pledged continued support for widows, women, orphans, youth, and people with disabilities through initiatives aimed at combating poverty and food insecurity.
Hon. Kahonda’s next campaign stop will be in Rurehe Subcounty as preparations continue for the January 15, 2025, general elections. He is running as an independent after a controversial loss in the NRM primaries to Atuhwereire Arthur Kazoora, amid allegations of vote rigging, ineligible voter participation, and result sheet alterations.
