RYERU, RUBIRIZI – Residents of Rugyenda Village, Mushumba Parish in Ryeru Sub-county have united to do community work, _burungi bwansi_, to improve their road from Kasoga via Rugyenda Village to Mushumba Trading Centre.
Using local labor, residents cleared, leveled, and maintained the road as they wait for government support and murram to make it durable.
According to Madam Kyoshaba Evas, Chairperson for Women in Rugyenda Village, residents teamed up to rehabilitate their community access road that had been in a poor state and impassable. She said the initiative seeks to transform transportation networks for farmers and enhance access to vital farmland and markets, especially for those who rely on that route.

She added that pregnant mothers and sick people have been facing significant challenges accessing health centers for maternal care, while learners also struggle to reach schools.
Mr. Tumushabe Masius, one of the residents involved in burungi bwansi, appealed to government to urgently provide murram so the road can become motorable. He said farmers have been struggling to transport harvested crops to the market due to poor access roads, leading to post-harvest losses and reduced income.
Meanwhile, Hon. Johnbosco Mugarura, Vice Chairperson LC3 Ryeru Sub-county, joined residents in burungi bwansi. He commended them for their effort and committed to present their concerns to the Sub-county Council for consideration so the road can be budgeted for.
Hon. Mugarura said community work shows love for the village, unity, and commitment among residents. He noted that burungi bwansi complements government programs to accelerate development when residents and leaders work together, rather than waiting for government intervention.
“Better roads improve transport, health, trade, and school access. This road will boost income and services in the area and help children reach school on time,” Hon. Mugarura said.
