RUBIRIZI,UGANDA – Over 215 learners from Ndekye Secondary School have completed a one-week patriotism training and were urged to promote culture, discipline, and academic excellence while avoiding drug abuse, sexual practices, and other immoral acts.
The call was made by Maj. Ayesiga Dagaras, Political Commissar and patriotism trainer from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, while presiding over a colorful pass-out ceremony for 215 fresh patriotism graduates at Ndekye SS.
Maj. Ayesiga said the training aimed at building learners’ discipline, responsibility, and national values to improve academic performance. He noted that it provided a platform for learners to share ideas, gain confidence, and maintain cordial relationships.

Learners were taken through civics and national values, discipline and teamwork, drills and punctuality, respect, anti-corruption, and honesty in school and future leadership.
Speaking at the function, Tumuramye Alex Mabwindi, Headteacher of Ndekye SS, confirmed that over 200 learners passed the patriotism training. He said the training helps students develop leadership skills, build capacity, and advocate for their rights and interests.
“Disciplined learners become responsible citizens. Patriotism has helped learners improve timekeeping, respect for teachers, and classroom participation. When learners are disciplined and responsible, academic performance goes up. Continuous mentorship, peer accountability, and community service will help us sustain this progress,” Mr. Mabwindi said.
Ven. Rev. Arthur Atwine, Diocesan Education Secretary for West Ankole Diocese, urged parents to reinforce patriotism at home through respect, hard work, and truthfulness. He encouraged learners to obey teachers, protect the environment, and avoid drugs and idleness.
“A patriotic learner is a blessing to the Church, school, and nation. Patriotism is about character, service, and love for God. It helps learners improve in unity, discipline, and hard work,” Rev. Atwine said. He asked parents to love and educate their children, noting that a child with patriotism skills cannot be misled by others.
Madam Robiina Mirembe, Deputy Resident District Commissioner of Rubirizi and chief guest, commended Ndekye SS for fulfilling government programs by participating in patriotism training. She urged learners to put the training into practice, have discipline, shun drug abuse, sectarianism, and laziness.
“Use this self-discipline, integrity, and mentorship to excel in class and serve the community. Keep the impact alive and be good ambassadors in society,” Madam Mirembe said.
