Ishaka,Bushenyi – The Headteacher of Basajjabalaba Secondary School, Hajjat Nakalanzi Zamula, has urged students to make revision their top priority during the holidays if they are serious about academic excellence.
Speaking as learners began a three-week first-term break that runs until the last week of May, Hajjat Nakalanzi cautioned students against idle company that lures them into destructive behavior. “Avoid bad peer groups,” she said. “These are the groups that pressure you into sneaking out at night, abusing alcohol and drugs, engaging in early relationships, or even petty theft to impress friends. One wrong choice in three weeks can erase a whole term’s effort.”

She encouraged learners to draft simple revision timetables, revisit topics that challenged them in class, and use past papers to sharpen exam technique. “The holiday is short, but it is long enough to either build or break your momentum. Choose to build,” she added.

Deputy Headteacher Madam Nashimu echoed the call for balance, advising students to support their parents at home. “Help with the shop, the garden, or younger siblings. Discipline is not only in books. A helpful child earns blessings, and a blessed mind learns faster,” she noted.

Sports Head Mr. Huzailu also weighed in, urging learners to keep their bodies active while their minds stay sharp. “Play football, run in the morning, or skip rope. But set limits. Two hours of play, then back to the books. Your health and your grades must grow together.”
The school’s message comes as students across the country begin the short first-term break ahead of second term, which opens in the last week of May.
Basajjabalaba Secondary School, whose motto is _“Never Give Up”_, offers both O’ and A’ Level. Located in Ishaka town opposite KIU Teaching Hospital along the Mbarara–Kasese Road, the school is built on an Islamic foundation but admits learners from all religions. It is ranked among the best-performing schools in the district, with a reputation for discipline, academic rigor, and holistic student development.
