Rukungiri, Uganda – A fatal motorcycle accident claimed the life of a boda boda rider and injured two passengers in Rukungiri District on April 22, 2025.
The accident occurred at approximately 10:20 pm at Rukondo cell, along the Rukungiri-Kihihi road.
Arinaitwe Spencer, 40, a boda boda rider from Nyabubare cell, Bwambara sub-county, died on arrival at Nyakibale Hospital.
He was reportedly carrying two passengers, Nkurye Philimon (70) and Hakiri Brian (36), both peasants from Bwambara sub-county, back from a funeral in Nyarushanje.
Police say the motorcycle, registration number UER 138G, a red Bajaj Boxer, veered off the road at a corner near Rukondo.
Preliminary investigations indicate that reckless riding, specifically excessive speed, was a contributing factor.
Nkurye and Hakiri sustained injuries and received treatment at Nyakibale Hospital. Spencer’s body was taken to Rwakabengo Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination. The motorcycle is currently impounded pending inspection.
ASP Maate Elly, Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and stated that inquiries are ongoing.
