KAMPALA,UGANDA — President Yoweri Museveni has cleared all 9 officials from the Ministry of Finance who were suspected in the Bank of Uganda billions of shillings theft case.
In a directive issued on Monday, the President said the 9 officials are not guilty and should not be held responsible for the fraud.
President Museveni has instructed the Criminal Investigations Directorate – CID and the Directorate of Public Prosecutions – DPP to go back and conduct proper investigations in order to identify and arrest the real thieves behind the scandal, instead of blaming innocent people.

As part of the directive, the President has also reinstated the Principal Accountant General, Mr. Lawrence Ssemakula, to office. He has been given a new 3-year contract with immediate effect.
Mr. Ssemakula was among the officials who had been interdicted as investigations into the alleged theft of billions from Bank of Uganda accounts continued.
The President’s decision comes amid public pressure for accountability and a transparent probe into how public funds were irregularly processed and transferred.
More details are expected to follow as CID and the DPP resume investigations.
