Kigezi, Uganda – Ahead of tomorrow’s National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primary elections in Kigezi sub-region, joint security forces have pledged a strong presence to ensure a peaceful and orderly process. The elections, scheduled for July 24th, will determine the NRM flag bearers for Local Council V chairpersons (LCVs), Mayors, and councilors.
ASP Maate Elly, the Police Spokesperson for Kigezi, confirmed a robust security deployment strategy. “Security personnel will be present at every polling station, and visible patrols will be conducted throughout the region to deter any potential disruptions,” ASP Elly stated. This proactive approach aims to prevent violence and ensure a smooth voting process for all participants.
The security forces have appealed to the community for cooperation, urging residents to adhere to electoral laws and instructions from security personnel. “By working together, we can ensure a peaceful, fair, and free election process,” ASP Elly emphasized.

Key reminders issued by the police include: respecting electoral laws and regulations, cooperating fully with security forces, and promptly reporting any incidents or concerns to the appropriate authorities. Failure to comply with these guidelines could lead to disruptions or legal complications.
The peaceful conduct of these primaries is crucial for maintaining stability in the region and setting a positive precedent for future elections. The heightened security presence and call for community cooperation reflect the authorities’ commitment to a transparent and democratic electoral process in Kigezi.
End.
