RUBIRIZI,UGANDA – The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has carried out a needs assessment in Rubirizi Area to identify interventions required to improve water supply and strengthen existing infrastructure.
The technical team, led by Senior Manager Water Quality, Dr. Babu, focused on three areas: completion of the ongoing Kabaseke Water Supply Project, optimisation of Kakindo Water Treatment Plant, and operational performance of Bururuma Water Treatment Plant.
At Kakindo, the team inspected the 200m³ water treatment plant and the 120m³ Kabaseke Reservoir before proceeding to the Kabaseke Booster Station, which is being developed to pump water from Kakindo WTP. The works include a 60m³ sump and pump house, as well as the 120m³ Katanda Reservoir.

The assessment established that completion of the project requires power connection, electrical and mechanical installations, pumping equipment, and laying of pumping and return mains.
Once completed, the project is expected to significantly improve water supply in Katerera Branch.
The team also reviewed treatment processes at Kakindo WTP to improve efficiency and optimise use of available infrastructure.
At Bururuma WTP, which has a capacity of about 1,000m³ per day and draws raw water from Lake Rutoto, the team assessed production, treatment performance and interventions needed to improve service delivery.
NWSC says it is implementing a number of interventions across the country to improve access to safe and clean water for all.
