Mitooma District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Agasha Juliet Bashiisha, has officially thrown her hat into the ring for a seat in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA). With the campaign slogan “Together for an Integrated East Africa”, Agasha is banking on her legislative experience to drive regional integration, development, and prosperity.

Hon Juliet Bashiisha.
Agasha’s nomination comes at a time when the EALA is seeking to strengthen its role in promoting economic growth and social development in the region. The assembly comprises 9 elected members from each partner state, with several women members playing key roles in shaping regional policy.

Notable female EALA MPs include Winnie Odinga from Kenya and Jacqueline Amongin from Uganda, who have been instrumental in pushing for women’s rights and regional cooperation. Agasha’s candidacy is expected to boost Uganda’s representation in the assembly and promote the country’s interests in the region.
“I am committed to working tirelessly to ensure that our region benefits from our collective efforts,” Agasha said in her nomination statement. Her priorities include promoting trade, investment, and infrastructure development, as well as advancing women’s empowerment and youth engagement.
