Rukungiri,Uganda – Territorial police in Rukungiri have registered a fatal road crash that claimed the life of a 5-year-old girl, Flavian Atwine.
The incident occurred on Sunday, 19th April 2026, at around 8:30 a.m. at Kibarama Cell, Kibarama Parish, Bikurungu Town Council, Rujumbura Sub County, along the Kihihi Road in Rukungiri District.
A red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UGD 314F, ridden by Kanyesigye Isaac, was involved.
Police say the motorcyclist was traveling from Rukungiri Town toward Kihihi, carrying milk cans on top and on the sides, plus a jerrycan. He struck the child, who was walking along the left road shoulder with her mother.
The victim sustained a serious head injury and was rushed to Bikurungu Town but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The scene was visited, documented, and cleared by a team led by DTO ASP Sabiti Patrick. The body was taken to Bikurungu Health Centre III mortuary for postmortem.
The rider is in police custody. The motorcycle has been parked at the police yard pending Inspection of Vehicle (IOV).
Police cite reckless riding as the primary cause of the crash. Inquiries are ongoing.
