Bushenyi, Uganda – The Make Bushenyi Greater Again (MBUGA) association has given the Ministry of Works and Transport a two-week deadline to repair the dilapidated Ishaka-Mbarara highway.
Failure to act within 14 days, beginning May 15th, 2025, will result in a citizen-led road blockade, according to a letter from MBUGA Chairperson Pison Mugizi.
Mugizi’s letter expresses the association’s unwavering commitment to addressing the highway’s deteriorating condition, which significantly impacts residents and businesses.

He stressed that MBUGA will not tolerate the continued hardship caused by the government’s perceived inaction and will organize a peaceful protest to disrupt traffic until repairs begin.
The Ishaka-Mbarara highway serves as a crucial transportation artery for the region, and its poor state is a long-standing source of frustration for the community. MBUGA’s ultimatum underscores the growing public discontent with the government’s response.
As of yet, the Ministry of Works and Transport has not publicly responded to MBUGA’s demands. The looming deadline raises questions about the government’s planned action and the likelihood of a highway blockade.
End.
