BUSHENYI, UGANDA – Excitement filled Bushenyi District on Thursday, 23rd October 2025, as Vianah Kemigisha, widely known as “Nyamunyonyi,” was officially nominated for the Woman Member of Parliament seat as an independent candidate.
Traffic came to a standstill in Bushenyi Town, Trinity Stage, and Ishaka Town as supporters lined the streets to cheer Nyamunyonyi on her way to meet constituents awaiting her arrival in Kizinda Town Council, Igara West, Bushenyi District.
Nyamunyonyi decided to run as an independent after a controversial loss to the incumbent, Hon. Katusiime Annet Mugisha, in the NRM primaries—a contest marred by allegations of vote rigging from disgruntled voters.
She now faces a tough race against both the incumbent Hon. Annet Mugisha and Madam Namara Caroline, a prominent civil society figure and senior radio personality popularly known as “Enyonyozi ya Bushenyi.” The contest is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched elections in the region.
