RUKUNGIRI, UGANDA – The territorial police in Rukungiri are investigating the death of Alex Mugarura, a resident of Marumba ‘B’ cell, Kanyinya ward, southern division, Rukungiri district. Mugarura was detained at the Marumba police post on November 10, 2025, after allegedly threatening to cut his parents with a panga and cutting down a banana plantation.
According to police reports, Mugarura was found hanging from his T-shirt in his cell on November 11, 2025, at around 2:30 am. The scene was visited by a Magistrate Grade 1, police officials, and a medical doctor, and the body was later handed over to relatives for burial.
Mugarura had reportedly been in and out of prison over similar cases against his parents, which has raised concerns about his behavior.
