Bushenyi,Uganda – Kibingo Girls Secondary School and Kashozi Boarding Primary School emerged winners at the 2026 West Ankole Diocese Primary and Secondary Schools Music Competitions, held recently at Bweranyangi Girls Secondary School and Bishop McAllister College Kyogyera.
The competition drew 14 primary and 9 secondary schools from the diocese’s five music zones. Learners competed in piano playing, sight singing, voluntary composition, Bible skits, and other categories that helped judges select the best performers.
On Thursday, 22nd April 2026, Kashozi Boarding Primary School was crowned overall winner in the primary category with 431 marks. Kyabandara Primary School finished second with 420 marks.

On Friday, 23rd April 2026, at Bweranyangi Girls Secondary School in Bushenyi, Kibingo Girls Secondary School took top honors out of nine schools, with host Bweranyangi Girls Secondary School in second place.
Bishop McAllister College Kyogyera and Bishop McAllister Anglican Seminary also won the piano playing competition at secondary and primary levels, respectively. The piano contests were held on 22nd April 2026 at Kyogyera Diocesan School of Music.
Diocesan Music Director Mubangizi Edson said the initiative, which started last year, will be held annually. He urged all schools to embrace music as a co-curricular activity to help learners explore their talents. He added that the competition aims to revive original Anglican Church music, which has been overshadowed by newer compositions adopted by church choirs.
Rt. Rev. Johnson Twinomujuni commended the participants for the courage and charisma they showed from zonal to diocesan level. He encouraged schools to help learners take greater interest in instruments like the piano, noting that “these instruments give music direction.” He called on all schools in the diocese to participate actively in next year’s competition.
