Rubirizi,Uganda – Kicwamba Orphanage Foundation has received sanitary pads and other donated items from Kampala International University students at the Ishaka Branch to support orphans and vulnerable children in the community.
Team leader Hasan Sentongo said the students organized a donation drive to improve the children’s welfare. They delivered essential items including food supplies, clothing, sanitary pads, shoes, scholastic materials, and basic necessities to support orphans who lost parents to poaching and HIV.
“Many girls miss class due to lack of menstrual products,” Sentongo said. “These items will help them stay in school and study.”

Kicwamba Orphanage Foundation Director Edison Kyagaba said the organization was established after realizing that many children in the area had been orphaned and needed support. The foundation educates, transforms, empowers, and cares for orphans and vulnerable children living with HIV.
Kyagaba added that the foundation also runs community-guided walks, handcraft making, music, dance, and drama to raise resources for the children. He appealed to other well-wishers to support girls’ education by donating more scholastic materials.
Student team leaders at the orphanage, Akankwasa Judith and Ana Blessing, thanked the KIU students for restoring hope to the children.
They highlighted the impact of the donation, noting that sanitary pads help girls stay in school and concentrate on their studies. “Many girls have been facing challenges because they don’t have adequate materials to protect their dignity, and some parents cannot afford pads. This affects class attendance and concentration,” Judith said.
