SHEEMA, UGANDA – Hon. Atuhaire Jacklet Rwabukurukuru has been officially nominated to contest for the Sheema District Woman Member of Parliament seat in the 2026 general elections.
Rwabukurukuru, who previously served as Sheema Woman MP from 2016 to 2021, is running as an independent candidate and is not affiliated with any political party.
She was nominated on Wednesday, 22nd October 2025, at the Sheema District Headquarters as the Electoral Commission commenced its two-day nomination exercise for parliamentary candidates.

Rwabukurukuru succeeded Hon. Rosemary Nyakikongoro in 2016 after Nyakikongoro defeated her in the controversial 2015 NRM primaries. However, Rwabukurukuru lost the seat back to Nyakikongoro in the 2021 general elections.
This time, Rwabukurukuru is set to challenge NRM flagbearer Adrine Mwebesa, who ousted the incumbent Nyakikongoro in the recent NRM primaries, alongside other candidates being nominated as the process wraps up today, Thursday 23rd October 2025.
