Dear Colleagues,
The Uganda Media Sector Working Group invites you to join us in commemorating World Press Freedom Day on *Sunday, 3rd May 2026*. This important day aims to promote awareness about press freedom, reaffirm its role as a foundation for peace, development, and security, and strengthen efforts toward journalists’ safety, including addressing gender-based threats in both physical and digital spaces.
*Programme Highlights:*
*1. Commemorative Walk* – Starts at *7:00 a.m.* from Uganda Broadcasting Corporation Grounds, proceeding through Lugogo, Katikati, Kololo, Hotel Africana, and back to UBC.
*2. Main Event* – Speeches and a Lifetime Achievement Award ceremony honoring excellence in the media industry.
*Venue:* Uganda Broadcasting Corporation Grounds
The event will be officiated by the Hon. Minister for ICT and National Guidance, *Dr. Chris Baryomunsi*, alongside key stakeholders including the Chairperson of the Uganda Human Rights Commission, the Chairperson of the Media Council of Uganda, media leaders, ambassadors, and other senior officials.
You are kindly invited to fully participate in these activities. *Please come dressed in a white T-shirt for the walk.*
