Ntungamo, Uganda – A suspected motorcycle thief was lynched and burned alive by a mob in Murambi cell, Katungamo parish, Rugarama Sub county-Rushenyi, on Tuesday, April 1st, 2025.
The victim, identified only as “Boy,” the son of Bebwa Omwitira, was allegedly found in possession of a stolen motorcycle near the Katungamo weekly market.
Witnesses reported that “Boy” had been terrorizing the area for some time, stealing motorcycles, goats, and other belongings.

When residents apprehended him with the stolen motorcycle, they took the law into their own hands. They beat him before dousing him with petrol and setting him ablaze using dry grass and firewood.
By press time, local police had not yet been informed of the incident. The brutal act highlights the ongoing challenges with mob justice in the region and the lack of trust in official law enforcement.
The incident raises concerns about the rule of law and the need for increased police presence and community engagement to prevent such extrajudicial killings.
Investigations are expected to follow if and when police become involved.
