Buhweju, Uganda – A 17-year-old girl, Maureen Nagasha, suffered aggravated torture at the hands of her teachers at St. Victor Secondary School in Buhweju District, sparking a police investigation and public outcry.
The incident, which occurred on March 26th, 2025, only came to light after a concerned citizen discovered Nagasha receiving treatment at a medical center, having been secretly taken there by school officials.
According to a police report (Buhweju CRB 121/2024), Nagasha, a senior one student, was accused of stealing 45,000 Ugandan shillings.

Teachers Hanifah Nyakato, Muramagi Saddius, Kiiza Nicholas, and Kabagambe Bernard allegedly dragged her from class, locked her in the staff room, and subjected her to severe punishment.
The school administration, including the PTA chairman and a school administrator, then transported Nagasha to DC Medical Center in Bwizibwera without informing her parents.
Police investigations revealed no evidence supporting the theft allegations. Detectives visited the school, interviewed witnesses, and are currently pursuing the four implicated teachers.
The Greater Bushenyi Police Spokesperson, SSP Marcial Tumusiime, confirmed the findings, highlighting the school’s negligence in addressing the incident and the subsequent cover-up.
The victim’s parents have been notified, and a full medical examination is underway.
The incident has ignited widespread condemnation, raising serious concerns about school safety and the conduct of educators.
