MITOOMA,UGANDA — Former Ruhinda South Member of Parliament, *Hon. Mugabe Dononzio Kahonda*, on *Saturday 8th August 2026* launched *RUHINDA SOUTH ICESUDE SACCO* in a meeting attended by representatives from *all parishes in Ruhinda South*.
The SACCO, operating under _Integrated Community Support and Sustainable Development Uganda – ICESUDE_, was formed to promote savings, affordable credit and sustainable development. It already has *more than 500 registered members* and registration is ongoing.
*Leadership Elected for One Year*
Members elected a board to serve for one year:
– *Chairperson*: Can. Nightie Nduhukire Kamporo
– *Treasurer*: Gloria
– *Secretary*: Moses Rwamayanga
– *Vice Secretary*: Edson Byereeta
– *Publicity*: Henry
– *Committee Members*: Edna – Mutara, Jenipher Rurehe, Keneth – Kabira TC, Bonde – Kabira SC, Katwire Mayanga, Edson Nyakizinga and Komuhangi – Mutara SC
A *Supervisory Committee* of Katsigazi, Julius and Seth was also elected to ensure accountability.
Hon. Mugabe Dononzio Kahonda was named *Patron* of the SACCO. ICESUDE Ambassadors will be elected per sub county to support mobilization.
*Aims and Targets*
The meeting resolved that Ruhinda South ICESUDE SACCO will focus on:
1. *Economic Empowerment & Financial Inclusion*: Mobilize savings and provide affordable loans to members, especially vulnerable households, youth and women. Promote VSLA models and link members to livelihood training and work-readiness grants.
2. *Community Development & Social Protection*: Work with ICESUDE/ICYD to support OVC and vulnerable households through economic strengthening, parenting and case management.
3. *Education & Youth Support*: Provide school fees loans and partner on financial literacy and grants for out-of-school youth and young parents.
4. *Health & HIV Support*: Link members to health services including Katungu Hospital and support C/ALHIV households with economic assistance.
5. *Income-Generating Projects*: Identify land to set up a *poultry project* and other ventures to grow SACCO capital.
6. *Governance & Capacity Building*: Ensure transparency, train members in financial management and cooperative governance, and work with Diocesan Boards, local leaders and government.
*Other Key Resolutions*
– The SACCO will operate from the *former MP’s office*.
– Members will pay *UGX 10,000* shares, *UGX 10,000* savings and *UGX 10,000* membership fee.
– A commercial bank account will be opened with the Chairperson, Treasurer and Secretary as signatories.
– The SACCO will apply for a *grant under ICESUDE* and continue mobilizing more members across all parishes.
Speaking at the launch, Hon. Kahonda commended members for turning up in big numbers and urged them to use the SACCO as a tool for unity and household transformation.
_“Ruhinda South ICESUDE SACCO exists to promote savings, provide credit, and drive community transformation by combining financial services with ICESUDE’s mission of supporting children, youth, vulnerable families, and sustainable livelihoods,”_ the meeting resolved.
Registration and mobilization continue as the new board begins its one-year mandate.
