BUSHENYI, UGANDA – The race for the Bushenyi District Woman Member of Parliament seat has taken a new twist following the entry of BFM Radio presenter Carol Namara, popularly known as Enyonyozi ya Bushenyi. Namara has declared her intention to contest as an independent candidate ahead of the 2026 general elections.
As a new player in the political ground, Namara has outlined a comprehensive agenda focused on six key areas: social services, good governance, economy, rights, unity, and people-centered leadership. Her agenda includes providing quality and affordable education, healthcare, access to clean water, market access, and affordable fertilizers.
Social Services and Economic Empowerment:

Namara promises to improve household incomes, support the 4-acre model, infrastructure development, job creation for youth, and support women’s initiatives. She also plans to lobby for improved infrastructure, especially roads, to enable farmers to easily access markets for their products.
Good Governance and People-Centered Leadership:
Under good governance, Namara vows to fight corruption, promote citizen participation, and ensure accountability. She emphasizes people-centered leadership, consulting with the people to present and lobby for their needs.
The Competition:
Namara joins a growing list of contenders, including incumbent Hon. Annet Katusiime Mugisha, the NRM flagbearer who has been instrumental in setting up and supporting village saving groups for women, men, and youth in the district. Katusiime has also lobbied for electricity supply, safe and clean water, and supported schools and health infrastructure.
Another contender is Vianah Kemigisha, an inspiring candidate who has been mobilizing support in Bushenyi. Kemigisha wants to see effective administration and service delivery in the district, with a focus on improving household income through supporting SACCOs and youth projects.
