Ntungamo District, Uganda, is grappling with a stark reality: seven health centres constructed between 2002 and 2008 remain closed and unused, despite a significant investment of UGX 380 million in each facility. The inactivity of these health centres has left residents facing challenges in accessing basic medical care, highlighting a significant gap in healthcare accessibility.
The idle health centres raise questions about resource allocation and accountability in healthcare infrastructure development. As the community struggles to meet its healthcare needs, these unused facilities symbolize unmet promises and lost opportunities for better health outcomes.
The lack of response from local authorities and healthcare officials on plans to activate these facilities underscores the need for urgent action. It’s time for decisive steps to turn these idle structures into functioning healthcare facilities, addressing the community’s needs and justifying the investment made.
